There was a story in west Sumatera about a rebellious man named Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang & his mother lived in a village in poverty. Every day Malin's mother worked assisting fishermen to take out fish from their ships to get some money. But, they still could not fulfil their daily needs.
One day, Malin decided to go to find a job. he followed Datuk Bakri sailing from one sea to elsewhere. He left his mother alone in the village, after he had promised his mother to come back when he became rich.
Year by year had gone, and Malin Kundang really became a successful & rich man. Malin then went to the village with his wife for holiday. There, Malin's mother was so happy knowing that her son come home. But, when she approached Malin kundang & his wife, Malin Kundang prentended not to know his mother.
"Who are you? Poor woman! You just pretend to be my mother, don't you? Go away from me!" Malin said roughly &left his mother alone in the village.
Malin's mother was so sad & then she cursed him. "Malin, how dare you refuse me! Iam your mother! I curse you to be a stone!". Malin & his wife sailed again, but suddenly there was a big storm attacking their ship. Finally Malin Kundang turned into a stone. It was because of his mother's curse. He deserved to receice the curse didn't he?
